Joseph Clinic is a philanthropic medical institution,
affiliated with Seoul Catholic Social Welfare Center, directed in serving the sick and the poor.

Under the mission statement of “Helping destitute patients to their independence with the love that Jesus Christ has taught us”, the clinic opened on August 29, 1987, in Shinlim 1-Dong which was one of the biggest slums in Korea. The clinic moved to its current building in Yeongdeungpo on May 1st, 1997 to accommodate for the shift in population. August 29, 2017 marks the 30th anniversary.
Joseph Clinic provides services in various fields of medicine: internal medicine, general surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, dermatology, dentistry, and 20 other departments. Musical therapy sessions, lectures on humanities, and movie forums are also held to provide for spiritual well-being of the patients. Soup kitchens are operated to provide warm meals. Haircuts, bath services, and clothes are offered for good personal hygiene, and the clinic provides shelters for those in need.
With the help of 90 medical volunteers, 600 volunteers in various fields, and 8,000 donors, Joseph Clinic treats, on average, 100 patients per day. By the end of 2015, a total of 600,860 patients had visited the clinic.
In January of 2013, Joseph Clinic took its mission to provide best medical services to those in need abroad to Malabon, Philippines by opening a branch ‘Philippines Joseph Clinic’. So far, it has treated over 35,000 patients and supported its local population by feeding 124,600 malnourished children and giving away scholarships to 62 students of all educational levels.
For its contribution to the society, Joseph Clinic has received multiple awards like Catholic Grand Prize, Plaque of Appreciation from the mayor of Seoul, and Seoul Medical Association Award. In May, 2016, it was awarded Presidential Recognition of King Sejong Award. The founder of Joseph Clinic, Dr. Sunwoo, was also personally awarded Catholic Medical School Graduate of the Year, Plaque of Appreciation from Bishop Kang, U-il of Catholic Diocese of Seoul, Hoam Prize in social welfare in 2003, and Baekgang Award in social welfare in 2007. After his death in 2008, he was honored with Camellia Medal of Order of Civil Merit.
